Modern Manotick Barn

Ottawa, ON

A black and white theme compliments this take on a modern post and beam barn. An exploded plan creates the illusion of a traditional assemblage of rural Agrarian buildings. Varying the form heights, shapes and volumes also adds to the feeling of a picturesque rural compound with well defined outdoor spaces. Strong interior/exterior connections are enhanced by floor to ceiling windows and rows of French doors. The exploded plan also allows for light from the four cardinal directions to enter most of the rooms, especially the Great Room and Master Bedroom. A mix of SIP clad timber framed structures and ICF walls create superior comfort in an energy efficient envelope. Geothermal heated hydronic floors are covered in recycled pine flooring
and black slate. A simple palette of black and white helps to create a calm and casual zen atmosphere. Guest bedrooms and a library are located in the loft overlooking the Great Room while the Master Bedroom enclave with walk-in closet and Ensuite Bathroom are located on the ground floor level for future age proofing.
